Just wrote about them, and here they are, Uriah Heep in India, again!!!

Machaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! I screamed to my friend in Bangalore as I called to tell him about Uriah Heep's concert in Bangalore on the 8'th of next month. I had just written about Heep's historic concert at I.I.T, Madras in 1983 and I couldn't believe it when I went to their site for some information only to discover that they are playing at Palace Grounds next month. Tickets go on sale from Friday the 27'th onwards. Check the site.

On the band's site it also says that one of their members Goalby, was attacked and bitten onstage during the concert in Banglaore for which he had to take shots for Rabies. Check the link to find out.

Hey Anuj,

It's so wonderful to hear from a fan who actually went to these concerts. I must say you are extremely lucky to have watched some very big names who don't tour any more. One of those great bands from your list even came to Chennai but like I said I'll keep you guessing till I post an article on them. I am going to Bangalore tomorrow to meet up with another Heepster whom I will be seeing after a decade. Together we will be going for the concert. Tul played at IIM Bangalore on the 3'rd and Bryan Adams gave his 3'rd concert in Bangalore yesterday. Tull had been here in Chennai in 1991 and I was lucky to go for that one. That way Bombay and Bangalore are lucky or should I say great cities to have so much live concerts. I tried catching up with concerts (there are one too many of them) while in the U.S.A and Canada but missed many a good one for a variety of reasons.

I am open to new bands too but today's rock or metal lacks the beauty of what was being made 30 years ago.

By the way, Toronto is a great city, in fact my favourite of all the cities I have been to in N.America. Have fun.

Subash.

Hello Donthecat,

Nice to hear from a fellow MCC'ian who also went to the concert.

I went to MCC from 1985 to 1988 and was a Selayurian in my last year. Maybe that makes you my senior. I have both painful and pleasant memories of my college life. Thanks for the MCC link anyway.

Hi Subash,

My name is Ajit and I'm writing a book (on behalf of IIT Madras) commemorating this history of Mardi Gras. I was looking for information on Uriah Heep's 1983 performance at IIT Madras, and I stumbled upon your wonderful article.

I'd like to get more information about the performance, and (if possible) photographs and other memorabilia. Do you think you could put me in touch with people who would have more information?

Hello Ajith,

Appreciate the nice words. Unfortunately pics are very difficult to obtain considering the amount of photography the layman was able to indulge in the early 80's.

The other thing you want to check is if Uriah Heep actually played at Mardi Gras because I don't think they performed during the cultural fest.

You may try and contact Anuj who currently lives in Canada and whose link you can obtain the comments section of this post. He had actually been to see Heep when they performed that year in Bombay.

Rgds, Subash.

Hey Anonymous,

Nice to hear from someone who went to the concert in 1983. I lived in Pondy from October 2012 till early 2014 and would visit Auroville very often. I consider myself fortunate to have meditated at the Matrimandir several times. A friend invited me for a lunch at the Solar Kitchen too. Made friends with a few in Auroville, Roy Chvat the guitarist and maker of the Guru amplifier, Kumba from Sound Wizard and Krishnakumar and his wife Gita who live near the coast near Kottakuppam, besides others. When Krishnakumar and his band, Krishna Temple Rock, performed at Auroville during my stay at Pondy, I was there. Were you there too?
